We’re Back!

Hello!

We took a small, unannounced vacation, but we’re glad to say that the server is back in action! The elections for our Council should take place soon, and remember to tell others about the server! It would be great to get new players!

Thanks,

BeefDoggoBork (Previously SourWater, but I just changed my name)

Current Government Description

A couple of our players met in the Capitol Building and heavily discussed what our nation’s politics shall be. This is what we have decided on…

While the server tries out the political system of Welfare Capitalism, the details of the society’s government have been decided:

There will be two bodies in the nation, but only one will be truly authoritative. There will be a Council and the citizens. The Council will be made of 5 people at a time, and each member will rotate for which one leads each meeting. The meetings will be held once every week, or sooner in case of an emergency. The Council will serve for one month, and there will 5 days at the end of it to replace the members. Each day, a member will be replaced (Council members may run for the position endlessly; there are no limits to terms). A member may be impeached with a majority of 90% by the citizens and 80% by the entire Council. The Council will decide everything that does not otherwise concern the Oligarchs, in which case half of the citizens must be in favor of a certain decision before the Oligarchs make the final choice. The Council will meet in the second floor of the Capitol Building. When deciding punishments, the Council will only be able to fine people, but they may also suggest banning (temporary or permanent) to the Oligarchs.

As for the decision process, it begins with anyone. A citizen, Oligarch, or Council member may bring up an idea, and it immediately goes to the Council. They vote on it, and the law is passed if it is unanimous. If not, it goes to the citizens. If the citizens vote for it in a simple majority (51%), the law will be passed. If not, the law will be rejected. However, the law may be brought up again once more after 2 months, but never again if it is rejected after that as well.

We Are Removing the Application System

Hello!

Since our server has been on several websites for a while, it is unlikely that we will be approached by hackers and spammers, who usually target the new ones. It is also unlikely that we will receive many players who do not understand the server. For this reason, we are removing the applications and removing the whitelist. This will guarantee that we gain more players.

Additionally, if you are scared that people who have not read the Constitution but have joined will grief, we make a backup of the world at least every week. So no need to worry!

Thanks! If you have any questions or concerns, please comment them!

(Welfare) Capitalism

Hello.

It’s official. The server has begun. And the first basic ideology (political system) we are trying out is welfare capitalism. Before you start worrying about not knowing what that is, let me give you a summary of basic capitalism.

Capitalism is about private ownership. It means citizens make their own business, real estate, etc. Capitalism is about profit; it is about the economy. People (not the government) trade with each other and try to get things for themselves.

Now that you have a basic idea of what capitalism is, let’s talk about the welfare part.

On the MESP, we will always strive to work together. Players live in a community; it’s not every player for his or her self. The welfare aspect of this capitalism is about helping or leaving room for other players.

What does welfare mean on the server, though?

Basically, the purpose of having welfare capitalism in the town is to prevent selfishness. We don’t want players taking immense pieces of land for themselves and not sharing any of it.

To play on the server while not breaking the political system set in place currently, all you have to do is this:

– Start building your own house, business, farm, etc. on a small piece of land

– Share the space with other players

– Only take large amounts of land if you absolutely need it

– If you have quite a bit of land, try to use it to make a service for others

– Check in with the Oligarchs! They will help you out!

Find more information about welfare capitalism here:

If you have any additional questions or concerns, leave a comment or e-mail me at mespserver@gmail.com!

Welcome to the M.E.S.P.!

Welcome to the Minecraft Experimental Society Project (MESP)! I’m sure you have several questions, so I’ll try to answer them all.

What is the MESP?

The MESP is a unique type of Minecraft server in which the basic civilization is what changes, and the players are the true leaders.

In basic terms, the MESP is a community of players that changes its politics often. Every once in a while, it will shift to one of numerous types of societies including capitalist, communist, socialist, etc.

The point of the server is to experiment with these many types of communities and see how different players thrive and fall, and how it affects production. Additionally, it should be pretty fun.

Is there a certain age group that players should be in?

Nope! The MESP is open to anyone who is willing to participate in the project, interested in the subject, or simply looking for a unique way to enjoy Minecraft.

Should I have previous knowledge of different political systems?

Definitely not! Every time we shift politically, there will be a thorough, in-depth post on the website that should explain each system very well. Each will also be open to questions from anyone, so everyone can fully understand.

How do I gain power in the society?

While there is no way for any player to get OP, you can get power politically. You can achieve the citizens’ trust, run for a leadership position, start up a successful business (depending on the type of society), etc. Just like in any nation today, anybody can work hard enough to become powerful.

How can I find more information on the MESP?

Just ask any question here on the website! There is a lovely comment section in which you can leave anything you want; you will receive a reply in a few days.

When/where can I start playing?

Right now! Once your application is accepted, you can join at mesp.bounceme.net!

Thanks, guys!
